Benefits of Cavity Wall Insulation?

  • Helps reduce your heating bills

  • Help retain heat, meaning you'll need to put the heating on less often

  • It's long-lasting - cavity wall insulation can last up to 42 years

  • Makes your home more energy efficient

  • Helps stop condensation and mould growth

  • What is cavity wall insulation?
If your home was built later than the 1920s, it’s likely to be made with ‘cavity walls’ – meaning there are two layers of brick, with a pocket of air inbetween. This gap can be filled with insulation by drilling a hole on the outside wall, meaning less heat will escape through your walls. Cavity wall insulation is usually made of material such as mineral wool, polystyrene beads or polyurethane foam.
  • How much does cavity wall insulation usually cost?
Cavity Wall insulation cost ranges from £1000 to £4600, depending on your property type and size. If you have a council tax band between A-D however, you could get this fully paid for by GrantMe.
  • How long will the insulation last?
If properly installed, cavity wall insulation can be effective for up to 42 years.
  • How does it reduce the loss of heat?
Cavity wall insulation fills the gaps between your outer walls. This stops air circulating, and taking heat with it. Insulation materials also prevent heat loss by a method called conduction.
  • How do I find out if I have cavity wall insulation?
If your home is less than 20 years old, it likely is already insulated. However you can check your EPC certificate, or even simply look for signs of drill holes on the outside walls, that may indicate insulation has previously been installed.

Cavity Wall FAQs

Not sure if you have cavity walls or solid walls?

If your home is made of visible brick, you can tell whether you have a wall cavity or solid walls by looking at the brick pattern. Solid walls have an uneven pattern compared to cavity walls which have a unified brick pattern.
